In August last year, I opened a small gallery for architecture, design and art at St. Johanns-Vorstadt 35 in Basel. In four exhibitions since then, I have tried to capture the points of contact between the various disciplines in pictures and objects as well as in stories about beauty and simplicity, people and their designed surroundings.
I would like to review the first year of the gallery with you and cordially invite you to join me on Friday, 30 August 2024 from 5 p.m. for a summer aperitif to close the current exhibition ‘Werner Bischof’ and to view some exhibits from past exhibitions. A comprehensive review with texts and pictures is summarised in an annual catalogue, which will hopefully be available to view and take away in the gallery in time for the festival.
Thanks
Ich danke Alexander Wagner, Raymond Meier, Ron und Tom Pfalzberger und Marco Bischof (Sohn von Werner Bischof) mit deren Vertrauen und Offenheit die Ausstellungskonzeptionen Realität wurden.
I would also like to thank all those in the background who helped to organise the exhibitions: I would like to mention Alexander Wagner, who accompanied me from the very first idea and was instrumental and tireless in shaping the content of the exhibitions. I would also like to thank Tosca Giovanoli from the unique Raymond Meier photo studio for her patience in answering my questions and for her commitment in all organisational matters. Eva Meier, daughter of Raymond Meier, helped with the translation of some of the texts into English. I would like to thank Karin Voser from vitra for the loan of the Akari lamps, which provided an atmospheric setting during the Werner Bischof exhibition. Sibylle Diehl took great care in making the filigree frames for the Badile and Werner Bischof exhibitions. Ausstellungen Badile und Werner Bischof.
Future outlook
After this eventful and exciting year, I am taking a break to make new contacts, gather ideas and develop concepts for upcoming exhibitions. I am therefore saying goodbye to St. Johanns-Vorstadt 35 - this historic and beautiful location at the entrance to Basel's old town - where you, dear readers, have allowed me to have interesting encounters and stimulating conversations. I hope to be back soon with a new programme.
Until then, I wish you a pleasant late summer
and send you my warmest regards
Elisa Gutermuth
